MIDDLETOWN, Ohio
- Trevecca Nazarene senior Aaron Burnett won a three-hole showdown in a playoff to help the Trojans win the 2016 Great Midwest Athletic Conference Men’s Golf Championship title on Tuesday.

Burnett, the day-one leader following a tournament record 67 (-5), finished off a fantastic run by tapping in a par putt on the 18th green for the win.

The Trojans (294-295-298--887) polished off their fourth consecutive G-MAC Men’s Golf Championship trophy and now set their sights on possible postseason play in regional action.

"It was a great couple days for the Trojans," said TNU head coach David Head. "I couldn't be more proud of the team. We set out to accomplish a goal and we were able to accomplish it."

Tying Burnett with a three-round total of 220 at the top of the leaderboard following the 54-hole conclusion was Cedarville’s Jordan Reese and TNU’s Payton Williams.

After Williams exited from playoff contention on the first hole at No. 18, Burnett and Reese had battled each other on No. 9 as a long putt from Reese rolled just inches shy of dropping in the cup.

Burnett had two particular shots from the rough in the playoff with an obscured view that he was able to save par on. After he sank the decisive putt, Burnett shook hands with Reese and praised his counterparts for the close finish.

“First off, hats off to Jordan and Payton; they played great and did awesome,” Burnett said. “The playoff was wild. On (No.) 9, I had to take an equidistant drop that gave me a shot at the green and was glad I had the chance to make the scores I needed to keep going.”

“It was a little crazy, but it was fun,” he added.

Burnett, Reese and Williams, all earned a spot on this year’s all-conference team. Joining them was Alderson Broaddus sophomore Seth Vannoy and Trevecca Nazarene’s Spencer Scarbrough.

Scarbrough posted a really impressive 67 of his own, the low round of the day and tied Burnett’s second-round score for the G-MAC Championship single-round record. He also matched the conference’s all-time 18-hole scoring record, shared now by Burnett, Payton Williams and Scarbrough.

The G-MAC All-Conference Team consisted of the top five scored individuals while five more and individual award winners will be added by the coaches following a vote.

The Trojans held off Cedarville (298-304-305--907) in the team race as Reese played steady for all three rounds with his 220 (73-73-74). Also finishing in the top 10 was Taylor Holt as he placed eighth.

Three Alderson Broaddus Battlers were in the top 10 with Seth Vannoy leading the way in a tie for fourth. Vannoy was under par today with a 71 (-1) while Adam “James” Jeffries came in sixth and Logan Lojszczyk was seventh.

Davis & Elkins (939), Kentucky Wesleyan (957) and Ohio Valley (966), finished fourth, fifth and sixth, respectively, in the final scoring.
