GREENWOOD, Ind. – Trevecca Nazarene sophomore Payton Williams was named the first Great Midwest Athletic Conference Men’s Golf Athlete of the Week for 2016 spring season on Monday.

Williams led the Trojans effort in their spring debut with a 71-73-69--213, tying the Trevecca Nazarene record for a 54-hole tournament.

TNU finished seventh in the Mississippi College Spring Invitational at the Lake Caroline Golf Club.

Williams’s 54-hole tournament score of 213 equals a pair of 213 tournaments by Joey Bradley during the 2011-2012 season.

Williams’s best 54-hole tournament prior to this week came in the TSU Big Blue Intercollegiate on April 13-14 in 2015 when he carded a 229.

The 69 Williams posted in Tuesday's round is the second lowest 18-hole total of the year for the sophomore.

Williams carded a 68 in the season opener at the NCAA DII Midwest Fall Regional. That season-opening 68 is the only round better than his three rounds this week. Williams 213 is his lowest 54-hole total of the year.

Trevecca Nazarene returns to action in the Dave Falconer Classic hosted by Arkansas Tech at the Chamberlyne Country Club in Danville, Ark., on March 7-8.
