GREENWOOD, Ind. - Cedarville sophomore Jonathan Class was named the first Great Midwest Athletic Conference Men’s Tennis Athlete of the Week for the spring season on Monday.
Class won five out of six possible matchups as he helped the Yellow Jackets go 2-1 against the likes of Houghton and Daemen. Cedarville also faced Roberts Wesleyan during the week.
Against Houghton College where the Yellow Jackets went 9-0, Class won his No. 5 singles match in straight sets by scores of 6-4 and 10-5.
He followed that by winning No. 2 doubles alongside junior partner Stephen Combs, 8-1
Class kept the winning streak going for the week as he went on to beat his Roberts Wesleyan opponent in No. 5 singles again, this time by scores of 7-6 and 6-4. Class was the only point awarded to Cedarville in the eventual loss to the Redhawks.
The Yellow Jackets ended their week on a high note as they went on to defeat against Daemen, 6-3.
Class contributed by winning the No 5 singles bout, 6-3, 6-2, again in straight sets. He then competed in the doubles alongside freshman Matt Brumbaugh where they won by a 9-7 decision.
The Yellow Jackets are now 6-2 for the season. Class upped his singles record on the year to 7-1. He’s also now an impressive 6-1 in doubles action.
