INDIANAPOLIS – Trevecca Nazarene freshman Landon Cottrell was tabbed the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Men’s Golf Athlete of the Month for an abbreviated November to close the fall on Friday.
Cottrell fired a two-round total of 152 (79-73) at the Trevecca Nazarene Invitational as the Trojans finished fifth out of 11 teams in attendance. He tied for 22nd individually in the field.
Cottrell has made quite the impression on the league in his first year at the collegiate level, heading into the spring as the G-MAC league leader in scoring average at 73.50 strokes per round.
The rookie from Memphis figures to be a key piece of the puzzle as Trevecca Nazarene men’s program looks to make it five straight conference titles in a row.
His low round of the fall season came with a 69 (-3) posted at the King Invitational. He started his career with a pair of top-10 finishes, including third at the King Invitational and ninth at the Great Midwest Fall Invitational.
The Trojans are idle now until March 6-7 before competing in the Mississippi College Invitational to debut the spring.
