LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Great Midwest Athletic Conference Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) was able to pitch in with various spring cleaning earlier this week at the Ronald McDonald House.
On Monday morning, a total of 14 representatives from the league’s schools helped with mopping, cleaning outdoor equipment, interior/exterior building maintenance, cooking desserts for the residents, organizing shelves and picking up trash.
The G-MAC SAAC also donated items collected throughout the year as part of the Athletes Collecting Toiletries in Service (A.C.T.S.) initiative.
Student-athletes from around the conference save various items from hotels they stay at on the road during the year and donate as a group.
It was also announced that the G-MAC SAAC collectively raised over $7,300 to donate to the Make-A-Wish Foundation to support an NCAA initiative.
“The student-athletes were humbled and relished the ‘behind-the-scenes’ tasks they completed,” said project leader and G-MAC intern Jordan Rickert. “They were able to use their talents to give back to those who were most deserving since many of the guests are families putting themselves second at all times, taking care of a sick child.”
The following G-MAC SAAC members took part in the Monday community service project: Alderson Broaddus’ Melanie Goulding and Emily Hosler (acrobatics & tumbling), Cedarville’s Laura Farleman (track & field), Chloe West (women’s soccer) and Matt Smith (cheerleading); Davis & Elkins’ Caitlyn & Carley O’Neal (women’s basketball), Kentucky Wesleyan’s Alex Velez (cross country and track & field) and Dalton Oliver (football), Ohio Valley’s Alex Shaw (women’s soccer) and Chase Long (wrestling), Trevecca Nazarene’s Abbie Alosi (women’s soccer) and David Cole (men’s basketball) and Ursuline’s Diona Roberts (cross country and track & field).
