G-MAC Men’s Tennis Athlete of the Month (September)

10.1.15

GREENWOOD, Ind. – Cedarville freshman Matt Brumbaugh was named the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Men’s Tennis Athlete of the Month for September on Thursday.

The Yellow Jackets pieced together a 3-1 month against the likes of Indiana-East, Otterbein, West Virginia State and 2017-incoming G-MAC member Findlay.

All three Cedarville wins were in shutout form, 9-0.

Brumbaugh was 3-1 in both singles and doubles competition as he broke into the collegiate ranks with immediate success while playing the No. 1 position.

In his Cedarville debut, Brumbaugh blanked Connor Kramer (Indiana-East) in straight sets. A week later, he beat David Seckel (Otterbein), 6-1, 6-1.

Despite a 6-4, 6-4 setback against Findlay’s No. 1, John Kidd, the freshman from West Milton, Ohio, turned around and shut out Caleb Starkey (West Virginia State) on the road in straight sets.

Brumbaugh teamed with Luke Ingles for all three Cedarville doubles wins, again in the No. 1 slot of the lineup.

Cedarville concludes the fall portion of the season today against Taylor University at home in the Johnson-Murdoch Tennis Complex.
