INDIANAPOLIS - The Men's and Women's Fall Golf portion of the 2014-15 schedule has started, and the conference has seen some great early season performances highlighted by a pair of tournament wins by Trevecca's women and a variety of other top overall and individual performances.
Men’s Golf
The men’s side of G-MAC golf has only featured three events, two from Cedarville and another from Trevecca. A majority of the league will begin its limited fall season this weekend at the Ohio Valley Invitational, leading into next week’s NCAA Midwest Regional in Chicago beginning on Sept. 29.
Early in the season, still seven months away from the G-MAC Golf Championships, Cedarville and Trevecca have been able to begin to put together their most competitive starting group.
Last week Trevecca finished fourth among six teams at the Smokey Mountain Intercollegiate, while Cedarville was sixth in a collection of nine teams at the Indiana Wesleyan Invitational. The Yellow Jackets posted a two-day total of 612, led by sophomore Taylor Holt, who finished tied for third overall at 143.
Trevecca had a 54-hole total of 908, led by sophomore Spencer Scarbrough, who posted the tournament’s top score among all 42 individual players through two rounds as he posted 69 on day one, two strokes behind the leader, but he took the lead by breaking 70 again with a low round of 69 on day two. He finished the tournament tied for second after a disappointing 79 in round three for a 217, two strokes behind first.
Most recent, Cedarville took part in the NCCAA Midwest Regional event in Kendallville, Indiana and finished third with another two day total of 612. This time, Jacob Forsythe led the way with a 147 and a fifth place finish.
Women’s Golf
The women’s side of the G-MAC has been a little more active in the early part of the fall season as seven scores have been posted, highlighted by two tournament wins for Trevecca against some G-MAC opponents and also some regional competition.
At the Mercyhurst Invitational, Ohio Valley, Trevecca, and Ursuline all competed with TNU taking the top spot. Ursuline was missing some regulars but managed an eighth place finish in a field of 16, while OVU posted a 15th place finish. Trevecca was led by Alexa Rippy and Mikayla Dodson, who finished third and fourth individually with a 158 and 159 respectively - just behind the medalist who fired a 157. Ursuline was led by Eadaoin Cronin and Chasey Rotondo, who tied for 15th as they posted the exact same scores of 167, even posting the exact score of 84-83 over the two days.
At the Gannon Invitational, Alderson Braoddus joined the group as Trevecca once again took the top spot, and Ursuline climbed to third and actually beat TNU on day two, but couldn’t overcome a 12 stroke deficit. TNU shot 636 to finish a stroke better than host Gannon and six better than Ursuline. Kaylon King led TNU with a two day total of 150 (75-75) to finish third, while Rippy tied for sixth with a 155. Ursuline was led by Rotondo again, who finished fifth with a 154. Ashley Rideout returned from missing the first event of the year to finish 15th with a 160, one stroke ahead of Cronin’s 161.
AB and OVU finished 16th and 17th of 18 teams, led by AB’s Natalie Perry, who shot a 170 and Lindsay Osborne of OVU, who posted a 173.
