GREENWOOD, Ind. – Great Midwest Athletic Conference Commissioner Tom Daeger recently participated in the viral challenge, an initiative to raise money and awareness for the Kay Yow Cancer Fund.
Daeger endured an icy bath of cold water outside the league office and was originally challenged by Peach Belt Commissioner Dave Brunk.
As a result, Daeger passed along the #Chillin4Charity challenge to three individuals: The PacWest Commissioner Bob Hogue, Great Northwest Athletic Conference Commissioner Dave Haglund and Jay Jones, the Associate Director of Division III at the NCAA.
was started by Arizona women's basketball head coach Niya Butts and has caught on with nationwide popularity and participation. When someone is challenged, he or she has a designated time to answer.
If the challenged person fails to complete the challenge, the cost is a $250 donation to the Kay Yow fund. For every challenge answered, the challenger donates $50. Challenges that are answered require a $25 donation from the challenger.
The Kay Yow Cancer Fund was officially founded on Dec. 3, 2007, from the vision of the organization’s namesake Kay Yow, former North Carolina State University head women’s basketball coach who passed away in 2009 after a long battle with cancer. Before her death, she joined forces with the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) and The V Foundation for Cancer Research to form the Kay Yow Cancer Fund, a 501 (c)(3) charitable organization committed to being a part of finding an answer in the fight against women’s cancers through raising money for scientific research, assisting the underserved and unifying people for a common cause.
