CINCINNATI, Ohio – The Great Midwest Athletic Conference concluded its 2014 G-MAC Men’s Golf Championships on Wednesday afternoon, and after 54 holes, the Trevecca Nazarene University Trojans repeated as champions, just a week after the women’s program from TNU repeated as G-MAC champs.
The Championship event took place at Glenview Golf Course in Cincinnati, and they provided a challenging par 72 - 6823 yard walk for the student-athletes. The Trojans led from the start to the finish, holding a lead after each round.
After day one, Davis & Elkins and Cedarville ranked second and third in the standings, but after a difficult final round, Kentucky Wesleyan posted the lowest final 18 holes of all teams and went from fourth up to second place and runner up.
D&E dropped to third place, despite Evan DeGrazia posting the tournament low mark of 228, earning Medalist and All-Conference honors. Cedarville dropped from third to fifth in the rankings after losing Jordan Reese, who was tied for fifth overall after two rounds, due to severe allergies. Ohio Valley University took advantage and climbed the standings after a solid final round to finish fourth overall.
Rounding out the standings in sixth place was Alderson Broaddus, though the Battlers top performer was James “Adam” Jefferies, who missed out on medalist honors by just one stroke as he posted a three round total of 229. He was one of only three (Logan Martin of TNU and Luis Herrera of OVU) to shoot in the 70’s in all three rounds. He was the only golfer to shoot 77 or better in all three rounds. Tournament medalist had a high round of 80, but fired two rounds of 74 on day one.
Trevecca Nazarene was led by Logan Martin and Tyler Phillips who tied each other for fifth place, earning both of them All-Conference honors. DeGrazia, Jefferies, Herrera, Patrick Schirmer of Kentucky Wesleyan, Martin, and Phillips earned six automatic spots on the 10-person All-Conference team by finishing in the top five spots in the tournament. The remaining four spots will be voted on by the coaches in the next week. The coaches will also identify the Coach of the Year, Freshman of the Year, and Golfer of the Year.
