GREENWOOD, Ind. – Another impressive week on the ground was showcased from Alderson Broaddus and an improbable last-second Hail Mary finish interrupted a mini win streak for Kentucky Wesleyan over the weekend in Great Midwest Athletic Conference football action.
 
Central State (1-5) fell victim by a double-digit margin on the road at Miles College in a relatively low-scoring affair, 22-12, while Alderson Broaddus (4-2) scored a 59-24 win at home.
 
Kentucky Wesleyan (3-3) had a three-game win streak snapped on the road in Lake Wales against the Royals of Warner as time expired.
 
AB’s Brandon Jones carved out another 100+ yard game rushing with four more touchdowns and special teams played a key component as the Battlers grounded the Skyhawks.
 

Alderson Broaddus 59, Point 24
 
ABU blocked a pair of kicks and returned a missed field goal for a touchdown to highlight a stellar special teams effort and the Battlers never looked back after getting out in front early.
 
The Alderson Broaddus offense generated 22 points before Point was able to get on the board following a 91-yard kickoff return taken to the house.
 
Jones was the go-to man in short distance situations, scoring from one yard twice and five yards away in the first half alone.
 
Wilson Vaughn threw a pair of touchdowns in the first half as AB scored 15 points in the first quarter and 28 more in the second period.
 
Jones carried the rock 28 times for 157 yards with a long of 14. It marked his fifth game out of six this season he toppled the century mark in rushing yardage.
 
Issac Silafau was one of the primary targets through the air, hauling in seven catches for 109 yards and a touchdown. Cooper Schroeder, one of USA TODAY’s national award winners last week, caught nine Vaughn passes for 95 yards and another score.
 
ABU outgained Points by nearly 300 yards of total offense and limited the Skyhawks to just over 50 yards rushing. Albert Trammell anchored the defense with 13 tackles.
 

Warner 48, Kentucky Wesleyan 45
 
With 10 seconds on the clock and the Panthers nursing a three-point lead, Warner did the unthinkable as time expired and pulled off the Hail Mary, a 50-yard scoring strike to overtake KWC.
 
It marked the end of an offensive burnburner between both sides with 10 lead changes in a high-scoring affair.
 
Kentucky Wesleyan had taken down three consecutive opponents prior to the trip to Lake Wales.
 
Warner quarterback Darrin Davis threw for 288 yards and three touchdowns to help play spoiler in the Sunshine State. His last throwing strike found its target as Jayvon Young was on the receiving end of the game-winning score.
 
Davis’ positional counterpart threw for 379 yards as Dalton Oliver had a big day through the air to Keelan Cole and Xavier Mitchell, who each caught touchdowns.
 
KWC erased a 21-10 deficit with a 37-yard touchdown pass from Oliver to Mitchell before the half and one-yard scoring burst from David White midway through the third quarter.
 
White put the Panthers up 45-42 with 1:19 left in regulation to cap a six-play, 46-yard scoring drive as Davis’ desperation heave was pulled in with no time left on the clock.
 
KWC and Warner combined for over 1,000 total yards on the day despite the Panthers running 22 more plays than their opponent.
 
 
Miles 22, Central State 12
 
Dual-threat quarterback Michael Wilson threw for a score and ran for another, but it wasn’t enough for the Marauders as they fell against Miles College in a heated SIAC Saturday battle.
 
The Golden Bears engineered scoring drives on two of their first three possessions to take the lead early and carry a 20-0 advantage at the half.
 
After being shut out in the first half, the Central State offense was able to sustain scoring drives of nine and 14 plays in the second half.
CSU coughed the ball up on a fumble and interception along with three consecutive punts to begin the game.
 
Wilson racked up 67 yards on the ground and threw for 119 in the air. Central State managed to convert three of its five fourth-down conversions attempted.
