NASHVILLE - The 2012-13 inaugural Men’s Golf Championship finished up on Tuesday afternoon with the host, Trevecca Nazarene University taking the title with a round of 320 for a 54-hole, two-day total of 920. Cedarville University shot a third round low 316 and secured second place with a score of 946, while Urbana University took third with a 994.
Individually, Stephen Williams of Trevecca Nazarene took medalist honors leading the tournament from start to finish. Williams fired a tournament-low round of 69 in the first round, and followed that up with a second round low of 72 on a 36-hole day one of the Conference Tournament.
Williams wrapped up Medalist honors with a round of 78 on day two to finish with a 54-hole score of 219. His teammate Tyler Phillips, who trailed by six strokes after day one (74-73 - 147), posted a day two low round of 75 for a final score of 222 and a runner-up finish.
Jacob Forsythe and Jacob Nafziger led the way for Cedarville, each posting a score of 233 (78-75-80 and 79-78-76 respectively), while Urbana was led by Mike Dague, who also finished with a three round score of 233 (75-78-80). The trio tied for third place.
The top five finishers of the tournament, Williams, Phillips, Forstyhe, Dague, and Nofziger, were named to the G-MAC Men’s Golf All-Conference Team, while the coaches voted and selected Ross O’Neal (Urbana), Adam Mitchley (Urbana), Logan Martin (Trevecca), Aaron Burnett (Trevecca), and Jordan Glick (Cedarville) to make up the 10-member G-MAC Men’s Golf All-Conference Team.
The 2012-13 G-MAC Championship featured just three programs, but with the recent expansion, the 2013-14 G-MAC Championship field will double in size and feature at least six member institutions with additional expansion expected in the next few years.
