Winner Takes All: Findlay and Kentucky Wesleyan to Battle for G-MAC Baseball Title

Mason, Ohio- This year’s G-MAC Baseball Championship will feature two new contenders in the title game after last season’s matchup between the Northwood Timberwolves and the Ohio Dominican Panthers.

The Findlay Oilers will take on the Kentucky Wesleyan Panthers on Saturday, May 9, with the G-MAC Championship title on the line.
In addition to the conference crown, both teams will be battling for the conference’s automatic qualifying bid to the NCAA Midwest Regional.

Findlay Oilers baseball has dominated the competition so far, going 3-0 in the tournament while outscoring opponents 25-4. The Oilers are looking to cap off an impressive season with a conference title after advancing to the championship game for the first time since 2008. Findlay also set a new single-season wins record this year with 33 victories, becoming the winningest team in program history.

The Oilers placed five athletes on the All-Conference team. Luke Senften, Carson Mellott, Colin Becker, and Casey Maruniak earned First Team honors, while Aidan Kiessling was named to the Second Team.

Kentucky Wesleyan Panthers baseball also enters the championship game with a 3-0 tournament record after rallying for three consecutive comeback victories. The Panthers’ opening win came after trailing fifth-seeded Cedarville Yellow Jackets baseball 8-1 heading into the bottom of the seventh inning before erupting for eight runs to take the lead and
eventually secure a 10-8 victory.

Their second comeback came against the Ashland Eagles baseball, as Kentucky Wesleyan scored two runs in the seventh inning to tie the game 4-4 before adding two more in the ninth for a 6-4 win. The Panthers completed another dramatic rally in the semifinal round, erasing a 7-1 deficit over the course of two innings before taking an 8-7 lead in the bottom of the seventh. Kentucky Wesleyan held off Ashland the rest of the way to clinch its spot in the conference championship game with an 8-7 victory.

Four Panthers earned Second Team All-Conference honors and will look to lead Kentucky Wesleyan to its second G-MAC baseball title in school history.
