Great Midwest Releases Tennis All-Conference Teams

OWENSBORO, Ky. As six postseason team qualifiers make their way down to Kentucky, the Great Midwest Athletic All-Conference teams were announced for men’s tennis Thursday afternoon.
 
Sixteen individuals, as voted on by the league’s coaches, were recognized on the all-conference list for their work on the court during the 2024-25 season.
 
Eight student-athletes were named to the first team followed by eight more on the second team. Individual honors, including player of the year, freshman of the year, and coach of the year were also recognized.
 
For the men, Tiffin’s Phil Conley was voted as the Coach of the year for the third consecutive season. Tiffin won the regular season title for the fourth consecutive year, registering a perfect 8-0 mark. In addition to an impressive team record, Conley landed three student-athletes on the all-conference teams and two individual award winners.
 
Martin Driesner, a sophomore from Andilly France, was voted the league’s top player for the second straight season. Driesner posted a 7-1 G-MAC record at No. 1 singles and was 5-3 in No. 1 doubles. Overall, Driesner finished the regular season 13-6 in singles play.
 
Driesner is joined by teammate and Freshman of the Year Romain Marionneau as first-team selections from Tiffin. During his rookie season, Marionneau registered a 12-7 overall record, including 7-1 in G-MAC play. In doubles, he went undefeated at No. 2 doubles with a perfect 7-0 mark. The Dragons earned the No. 1 seed and a first-round bye in the conference championship.
 
Marionneau, as well as Hillsdale’s Ryan Papazov and Northwood’s Sergio Lopez Gullen, each earned a share of the Freshman of the Year honors. Papazov competed at No. 1 and No. 2 singles for the Charges, posting overall records of 4-4 (No. 1) and 4-5 (No. 2). For Lopez Gullen, the freshman from Murcia Spain recorded a 7-1 conference record and was 15-4 overall during the regular season, playing majority of the time at the No. 1 position.
 
On the women’s side, Findlay head coach Jeff Westmeyer was voted by his peers as the 2024-25 Coach of the Year. Westmeyer and the Oilers hold an overall record of 18-2 and a perfect 8-0 conference mark. The Oilers are ranked second in the most recent regional rankings and earned the No. 1 seed in the conference championship. Westmeyer landed six student-athletes on the all-conference teams, including Freshman of the Year Polina Zaytseva. During her first college season, Zaytseva recorded an overall singles record of 21-5 at first and second singles. Earlier this season, she won the ITA Regional Singles B Draw and was ranked as high as No. 62 in singles play.
 
Tiffin’s Jem Choi was voted the Player of the Year after posting an impressive 6-0 conference record in singles play. Overall, she is 16-4 at No. 1 singles. In doubles, the Wrexham, U.K. native is ranked No. 31 with a 12-3 record at first doubles.
 
The Elite 26 award winners are Walsh’s Lukas Kohler and Rachel Kibler. Kohler, a Bamberg, Germany native, is a junior studying business management. Kibler, a senior from Louisville, Ohio is an exercise science pre-OT major.
