Oilers Advance to NCAA National Championship for First Time in Program History 5.9.26 By: University of Findlay Athletics Bowling Green, Ohio- The University of Findlay women's tennis team punched its ticket to the NCAA Division II National Championship on Saturday, May 9, defeating the Ferris State University Bulldogs 4-0 in the NCAA Midwest Regional #2. The Oilers claimed the doubles point before earning three decisive singles victories to secure the first NCAA National Championship appearance in program history. With the win, Findlay improves to 21-1 on the season, while Ferris State closes the year at 14-8. Hosting the regional as the second seed, Findlay set the tone early in doubles play. Seniors Anamarija Kovacevic and Audrey Ouellet earned a 6-2 victory at number one doubles before senior Ivanova Lucero and junior Valentina Salek followed with a dominant 6-1 win to clinch the point. Freshman Maria Batinic extended the Oilers' lead with a convincing performance at number two singles, winning 6-3, 6-1 in just 53 minutes. Senior Ivanova Lucero added Findlay's third point of the afternoon with a 6-1, 6-4 victory at number six singles. Needing one final point to secure the match, sophomore Polina Zaytseva delivered at number four singles with a commanding 6-2, 6-2 win, sealing the 4-0 sweep over the third-seeded Bulldogs. Findlay will now await the release of the NCAA Division II National Championship bracket to determine its first-round opponent. The championship event is set for May 19-23 in Surprise, Arizona.
