INDIANAPOLIS- The Great Midwest Athletic Conference is proud to announce that Sarah Burgess has been selected as the recipient of the conference’s Excellence in Officiating Award in recognition of her outstanding service, leadership, and commitment to women’s basketball officiating.
Burgess has dedicated 13 years to officiating basketball, including the last 10 years at the collegiate level. Throughout her career, she has established herself as one of the most respected officials in the region.
Within the G-MAC, Burgess has been selected to officiate multiple conference championship contests, including the G-MAC Women’s Basketball Championship Final in 2019, 2020, 2021, 2023, 2024, 2025, and 2026. In addition to her championship final assignments, she has regularly worked quarterfinal and semifinal rounds throughout her tenure with the conference.
"I am truly honored and grateful to be recognized by the Great Midwest Athletic Conference,” said Burgess. “My love for the game of basketball and being on the court has always driven me, and officiating has given me the opportunity to stay connected to the game in a meaningful way. I’m thankful for the trust, support, and relationships built along the way—this recognition means a great deal."
A former Division I basketball player, Burgess brings valuable player perspective and experience to every game she officiates. Her knowledge of the sport, communication skills, and passion for excellence have earned the respect of coaches, student-athletes, and fellow officials alike.
Beyond her work on the court, Burgess is committed to developing the next generation of officials. She regularly conducts study sessions, mentors younger officials, and serves as a trusted leader within the officiating community.
