FLORENCE, Ind. – Findlay won its seventh-straight G-MAC Championship on Saturday at Belterra Golf Club. The Oilers battled through colder conditions to win the medal play portion of the tournament, 3-2.
It was a back-and-forth affair for most of the morning. Ellie Yeazell (+1) birdied on No. 18 to flip her match and grab the first point of the day for Findlay. Hayley Dye (+6) would win her match by the largest margin finishing five strokes ahead of her opponent to capture the second point of the day for the Oilers. A hole-in-one in Match 4 on the Par 3, No. 12 by Tiffin’s Abby Thompson would swing the match in the Dragons favor evening the score 2-2. It would all come down to the last match, Erin Mulcahy (+5) would lead the match for the entirety of the second nine besting her opponent by two strokes, sealing to match and the G-MAC title for the Orange and Black.
The University of Findlay (860) came into Saturday’s medal play finals as the top seeded team finishing the 54-hole portion of the tournament 25 strokes ahead of its opponent Tiffin (885).
The Oilers were led throughout the early half of the week by senior Mary Kelly Mulcahy. M. Mulcahy dominated the individual portion finishing at -8 for the tournament an eight-stroke lead over the second-place finisher. The Lima, Ohio native’s 205 (67, 69, 69) was good enough for 2025 G-MAC Women’s Individual Medalist honors and set a new 54-hole conference scoring record set by her former teammate Gabby Woods (207).
Findlay’s Round 1 score of 284 put the Oilers up on Ashland (301) by 17 strokes. Weather would move in during Round 2 of the tournament with play being suspended on Thursday evening.
Round 2 would continue Friday morning. The Oilers led for the entirety of the tournament following their Round 1 score with a 285 and 291 in Round 2 and 3 respectively. Tiffin would best its first-round score with an 11-stroke swing posting a 291 to move the Dragons in to Second Place. Tiffin would close the gap and solidify its spot in the final round recording a 292 in Round 3 finishing 32 strokes ahead of third-place Ashland.
In the individual portion of the tournament, Tiffin’s Lisa Marie Schumacher finished in second with a 54-hole total of 213 (E) shooting a low round of 69 (-3). Her teammate Laura Goetz would also finish in the Top 5 to receive all-conference honors finishing +5 (218) over 54 holes. Erin Mulcahy would finish 2 over (215) for a third-place finish. Ashland’s LeeAnn Harker would round out the Top 5 with 219 (+6).
