For the first time since early December, the Ashland University women's basketball team is in the top 10 of the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) NCAA Division II Coaches Poll.
As released by the WBCA on Tuesday (Feb. 4) afternoon, the Eagles moved up another spot in the Coaches Poll to No. 10. Ashland is 20-3 overall and 12-1 in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference, and has won 14 games in a row – the fourth-longest win streak among D-II women's basketball teams.
The Eagles will play at Malone (18-2, 12-0) on Thursday (Feb. 6) at 5:30 p.m. in a game for first place in the conference.
Tuesday's poll is the 185
th time Ashland has been in the Top 25, the 156
th time in the Top 10, and the 65
th consecutive ranking as a Top 25 side. The Eagles are 347-23 (.938) all-time as a ranked team.
As of Monday (Feb. 3), the Eagles rank fourth in the nation in scoring defense (50.2 ppg. allowed), fifth in scoring margin (plus-20.7 ppg.), and 10
th in field-goal percentage (45.8).
Individually, senior forward
Hayley Smith is second in the country in total rebounds (260), tied for seventh in double-doubles (11) and eighth in rebounds per game (11.3), while senior guard
Morgan Yoder is fifth in D-II in assist-to-turnover ratio (2.75-to-1).
