Midland, Mich. - Jake Jekielek, a standout relief pitcher for the past four years for the Northwood University baseball team, has been drafted by the Texas Rangers in the 10th round in the 2024 Major League Baseball Draft (315th overall).
He is the second former Timberwolf player drafted today, joining Derek Clark who was picked in the ninth round (262nd overall) by the Los Angeles Angels.
Jekielek responded to a slow start to the season to become one of the best relievers in the region. He finished 5-4 on the year with a 4.29 ERA and eight saves. Jekielek has a remarkable 56/5 strikeout-to-walk ratio on the year. In G-MAC play, Jekielek went 3-0 with four saves and a 1.09 ERA. He finished his career ranked third in school history with 16 saves.
Northwood finished the season 33-23 overall and reached the NCAA Tournament for the seventh straight year.
