OWENSBORO, Ky.- As six postseason team qualifiers make their way down to Kentucky, the Great Midwest Athletic All-Conference teams were announced for men’s and women’s tennis Thursday afternoon.
Sixteen individuals , as voted on by the league’s coaches, were recognized on the list for their work on the court during the 2023-24 season.
Eight student-athletes were named to the first team followed by eight more on the second team. Individual honors, including player of the year, freshman of the year, and coach of the year will be recognized on-site during the championship.
Tiffin’s Phil Conley was voted the Coach of the Year for both the men and women for the second consecutive. Both of Conley’s teams won the regular season with undefeated conference records. In addition to impressive team records, Phil Conley landed nine student-athletes on the all-conference lists and two players of the year.
Ruben Fonga, a graduate student from Nantes, France, was voted the league’s top player for the second straight season. Fonga posted undefeated conference records in both singles and doubles and was ranked as high as No. 3 this season. He finished the regular season 19-1 at the No. 1 singles position.
Also earning player of the year on the women’s side is Tiffin’s Maeva Maxch. Maxch competed at both No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles throughout the season, recording an 18-6 singles record. The graduate student earned a spot on the first team all-conference list in addition to teammates Ana Lepinay, Jem Choi, and Emily Barrett.
The freshman of the year on the men’s side belongs to Findlay standout Arthur Bord. Bord registered a 7-1 conference record at No. 1 singles and went undefeated at No. 1 doubles with second team all-conference selection Dallas Ramsay.
For the women, Hillsdale’s Ane Dannhauser was voted the top freshman after playing in the top position during her college debut season. She registered a singles record of 13-13 while going 12-6 at No. 1 doubles.
The Elite 26 award winners are Walsh’s Lukas Kohler and Rachel Kibler. Kohler, a Bamberg, Germany native, is a sophomore studying business management. Kibler, a junior from Louisville, Ohio is an exercise science pre-OT major.
