NORTH CANTON, Ohio- Walsh and Findlay will face off for the Great Midwest Women’s Lacrosse Championship title after advancing through the semifinal round of the tournament on Thursday afternoon.
No. 1 Walsh and No. 4 Tiffin played in the first game of the afternoon with No. 2 Ashland and No. 3 Findlay to following. The conference will crown its sixth women’s lacrosse tournament champion on Saturday at 11:30 P.M. ET on Larry Staudt Field.
Walsh maintained a steady lead throughout the duration of their game, scoring seven consecutive goals in the first nine minutes. Lindsay Hindman and Melinda Maers each scored four goals apiece as the Cavaliers went on to win 23-5. Goalies Kathleen Mendenhall and Rebecca Bargeron combined for six saves as the Walsh defense held the Dragons to 14 shots on the day.
Tiffin’s Caylin Kunze led the Dragons with three goals and Goalkeeper Jennay Rennie had seven saves.
The second game of the afternoon was close all throughout the 60 minutes with two ties and neither team leading by more than four goals. Findlay’s Olivia Alvarado scored on a free position shot with two minutes left to play. Four different individuals were able to score for Findlay, led by Danielle Dilorenzo who totaled a game-high six.
For Ashland, Camryn English and Rachel Crumbacher each had three goals and Jillian Rekulak totaled 11 saves.
Walsh and Findlay will meet in the Great Midwest Championship game on Saturday at 11:30 A.M. ET in North Canton, Ohio.
