Men's and Women's Tennis All-Conference Teams Announced

OWENSBORO, Ky. – As six postseason team qualifiers make their way down to Kentucky, the traditional Great Midwest Athletic Conference All-Conference Team was announced for men’s and women’s tennis Thursday morning.
 
Sixteen individuals as voted by the coaches were recognized on the list for their work on the court during the 2022-23 season.
 
Eight student-athletes were named to the first team and eight more were on the second team. Individual honors, including player of the year, freshman of the year, and coach of the year will be recognized on-site during the championship.
 
Tiffin’s Phil Conley was pronounced Coach of the Year for both men and women. Both teams are bidding for a regional appearance after earning a spot in the Midwest Regional list. The Tiffin men are slotted at No. 5 and the women are No. 4 in the most recent edition. Conley led both programs to an undefeated conference record and two regular season titles.  
 
The 2022-23 Great Midwest Men’s Tennis Player of the Year is graduate student Ruben Fonga. Fonga led the top-seeded Dragons to an undefeated conference record (7-0) and a regular season title. He is currently ranked No. 6 in the most recent ITA rankings for singles play. The Nantes, France native earned a spot on first-team all-conference and holds an overall record of  20-4 at the No. 1 singles position.
 
The Great Midwest Men’s Freshman of the Year was Walsh’s Phillip Carstensen, who went 10-6 this season in singles while locking down the No. 1 spot in the rotation.
 
On the women’s side, Hillsdale’s Sarah Hackman was named the 2022-23 Great Midwest  Player of the Year. Hackman enjoyed a 6-1 conference record at the No. 1 single position, while also being successful in doubles play with partner Melanie Zampardo, a second-team all-conference honoree. Hackman and Zampardo are currently ranked No. 34 in the ITA rankings with a record of 9-7.
 
Findlay’s Anamarija Kovcevic earned Freshman of the Year honors after registering an overall record of 10-1 in singles and 12-2 in doubles play this spring.
 
The Elite 26 Award Winners are Findlay’s Octavio Carrasco and Walsh’s Chiara Wolff. Carassco, a Valencia, Venezuela native is a graduate student pursing his MBA. Wolff, a junior from Munich, Germany, is majoring in Community/Clinical Psychology.
