ASHLAND, Ohio- In repeat of last year’s championship, Ashland demonstrated why they are the No. 1 team in the conference and country.
Ashland dismantled opponents in the three-game series of the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Women’s Basketball tournament, as they repeated as title champs.
Kari Pickens’ program will enter the field of 64 teams as an automatic qualifier in the NCAA Championship Midwest Regional. The Eagles head into the extended post-season undefeated at 31-0.
The season is not over for Trevecca, as they remain ranked in the region and will have a shot at an at-large bid. The NCAA Championship selection show will air Sunday (March 5) night at 10:30 P.M. ET.
Ashland couldn’t seem to miss early on pouring in 42 first-half points while shooting 44.9% from the field including nine threes. The Eagles led 42-24 at the half.
The defensive efforts of Ashland held Trevecca to only 65 points while forcing the Trojans to 15 turnovers.
Three Eagles finished with double-digit points, led by Morgan Yoder with 18. Yoder is joined by Hallie Heidemann and Annie Roshak on the All-Tournament Team. Heidemann was four-of-nine from behind the arc for a total of 16 points. Player of the Year and MVP of the tournament, Annie Roshak, added 13 points for the Eagles.
Trevecca’s Emma Palmer led all-scorers with 22 points on the day. Palmer, as well as Keeley Carter, were also selected as All-Tournament honorees. Carter finished with 17 points and eight rebounds.
Malone’s Alexis Hutchison and Kentucky Wesleyan’s Shaylee McDonald round out the All- Tournament selections.
