INDIANAPOLIS—After competing at the Great Midwest/Mountain East Conference Championships, the postseason will continue for several swimming student-athletes from Findlay and Hillsdale.
The NCAA Swimming & Diving Championship qualifiers were announced Wednesday afternoon for Division II as the nation’s best will pack their bags for Indianapolis.
Student-athlete qualifiers either hit “B” or “A” cut standards throughout the 2022-23 campaign.
After winning Great Midwest/Mountain East Swimmer of the Meet award in Canton, Findlay Sophomore Camilo Marrugo qualified for nationals in the 100 butterfly, 200 butterfly, and 50 freestyle.
Also qualifying from the Oilers in his nationals debut is Freshman of the Meet Matteo Fillipi, who qualified for the 1650 freestyle.
Making his fourth appearance at the event is 10x All-American Tim Stollings. Stollings earned a spot in a trio of events including the 100 backstroke, 100 butterfly, and 50 freestyle.
Daniel Garcia will swim in four individual events, a team high. Garcia will compete in the 100 breaststroke, 200 breaststroke, 200 IM, and 400 IM. He currently holds the fastest time in Division II in the 100 breaststroke.
Junior Luca Chiandussi joins Garcia as a qualifier in the 100 and 200 breast.
Kristofers Bregis, Bruce Keener, and Marko Priednieks qualified for one individual event a piece.
The duo of Zein Kawas and Angel Margaritov will swim in the 200 and 400 free relays as well as the 200 and 400 medley relays in their second appearance at nationals.
Findlay women were also well represented as a total of six athletes will swim at the meet, with three qualifying for individual events.
Emily Mears-Bentley, who was named the G-MAC/MEC Freshman of the Meet, will compete in the 100 butterfly, 100 freestyle, 200 freestyle, and 50 freestyle in her nationals debut.
Katie Susi and Oleksandra Melnyk will each compete in an individual event. Susi qualified for the 200 breast, while Melnyk can be found swimming in the 100 backstroke.
A trio of swimmers in Sydney Jones, Macy May, and Troie Grubbs will represent the Oilers in the 200 freestyle relay, which ranks 13
th at the Division II level.
Hillsdale will send two swimmers in Megan Clifford and Elise Mason. Clifford qualified for the 200 butterfly, while Mason will swim in the 1650 freestyle.
In total, 18 student-athletes from the Great Midwest will swim at the national meet. The championships will be held March 7 thru March 11 in Indianapolis.
