INDIANAPOLIS- After winning back-to-back conference titles, Walsh earned the top position as the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Women’s Lacrosse Preseason Coaches Poll presented by Under Armour was announced on Wednesday afternoon.
The Cavaliers racked up three first-place votes as they look to win their third consecutive title
Walsh will look to replace Midfielder of the Year, Hannah McFeeters, as well as Defender of the Year in Halle Kotulock. First year head coach Erin Smith returns Freshman of the Year, Rachel Black, who ranked third in the league in assists at 1.71 per game. Melinda Maers, a First-Team All-Conference selection, also returns for the Cavaliers. Last Season, Maers ranked fourth in goals per game at 2.59.
Walsh received 15 points while preseason runner-up Findlay earned a total of 13 points and a first-place vote.
Rachel Bornstein, the 2022 Goalie of the Year, returns for the Oilers as well as First-Team attacker Danielle Dilorenzo.
Ashland was voted third and received one first-place vote with 11 points. Cassady Becker will return for the Eagles after being voted Attacker of the Year last season.
Tiffin was polled fourth with seven points followed by Lake Erie with four points.
The top four teams from the conference regular season will qualify for the postseason tournament, scheduled for May 4 – May 6, with the highest seed hosting.
