INDIANAPOLIS—The Great Midwest Athletic Conference Men’s Lacrosse Preseason Coaches Poll presented by Under Armour revealed associate member Mercyhurst as the 2023 favorite.

Eight teams are in the conference standing this year, as the Malone Pioneers make their men’s lacrosse debut.

Mercyhurst was undefeated in the conference before falling to Seton Hill in the conference championship last spring. USA Lacrosse Magazine has the Lakers ranked No. 4 in the country in their preseason Top 20. Head Coach Chris Ryan returns eight All-Conference selections, including Offensive Player of the Year Ethan Landymore. Landymore also received All-Region accolades and led the league in goals (4.44) and points (5.38) per game. Mercyhurst will look to have another successful postseason in hopes of winning their third conference title.

The reigning champions in Seton Hill University were voted preseason runner-up. The Griffins have made their mark in the Great Midwest, winning three championships since 2017. Seton Hill also received national recognition by USA Lacrosse Magazine, coming in at No. 12 in the preseason poll.

Lake Erie and Walsh were in the next tier of the voting, only seven points separating the conference full members. The Storm edged the Cavaliers by a 37-30-point count.

Next is Wheeling in the fifth-place spot with 24 points.

Former Great Midwest Member, Davis & Elkins, now an associate member, were polled at sixth.

Alderson Broaddus, another former full member, was picked to finish seventh by coaches as Malone rounds out the preseason poll at eighth.

The conference schedule officially starts on Saturday, March 18th, and the top four programs will look to earn a postseason bid into the Great Midwest Championship tournament at the highest seed host site.
