Eleven student-athletes captured Great Midwest Athletic Conference Athlete of the Week honors for the period ending March 13. Standouts across the spring sports were recognized at seven different institutions. Below is the complete list.
Baseball Player of the Week
Payton Eeles - Cedarville / Sr. / Acworth, Georgia
Eeles, a senior infielder, led Cedarville in four games last week. He hit 7-for-16 with a homer and six RBIs while scoring five runs. Eeles slugged .688 for the week and even stole two bases.
Baseball Pitcher of the Week
Michael Boswell - Tiffin / Sr. / Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania
Boswell threw a gem to highlight a 3-1 week for Tiffin. The senior struck out 10 batters in a complete game win while allowing just one run on three hits.
Softball Player of the Week
April Howser - Malone / Sr. / Elyria, Ohio
Howser led Malone at the plate last week, hitting 11-for-17 (.647) with three doubles and five RBIs. She scored two runs and had four multi-hit games last week, including two games with three hits.
Softball Pitcher of the Week
Riley Veron - Trevecca Nazarene / Fr. / Murfreesboro, Tennessee
You can't start a pitching career better than what Veron did for TNU last week. In her first career start in the circle, the freshman tossed a shutout. She also earned a win in relief against Ferris State, entering with TNU down 8-0 and shutting FSU down to allow the Trojans to win 10-8. For the week, she went 2-0 and didn't allow a single run over 12.2 innings.
Men's Tennis Player of the Week
Ruben Fonga - Tiffin / Fr. / Nantes, France
Fonga cruised in singles and doubles play to lead Tiffin to a 7-0 win. He won 6-1, 6-2 at No. 1 singles while also winning at No. 1 doubles 6-2.
Women's Tennis Player of the Week
Gabriella Hudec - Ashland / Sr. / Kitchener, Ontario, Canada
Hudec enjoyed a pair of No. 1 singles wins for AU. She won in straight sets vs. Florida Southern and then picked up a three-set win over Davis & Elkins at the top of the lineup.
Men's Lacrosse Player of the Week
Mike Andersson - Wheeling / Soph. / Whitby, Ontario, Canada
Andersson had a record-setting day for Wheeling in a win over St. Thomas Aquinas. The sophomore tied the single-game school record with seven goals, tying a mark set back in 2017. He scored four goals in the second quarter alone, accounting for half of his team's offense.
Men's Lacrosse Defender of the Week
Joshua Wolford - Wheeling / Fr. / Spring Mills, West Va.
Wolford is a repeat honoree after a season-best effort in Wheeling's win over St. Thomas Aquinas. The freshman allowed just three goals in the 14-3 win while stopping shots in net.
Women's Lacrosse Player of the Week
Lindsay Hindman - Walsh / Sr. / Erie, Pennsylvania
Hindman was the week's top offensive player after scoring four goals vs. Mercyhurst.
Women's Lacrosse Defender of the Week
Jenay Rennie - Tiffin / Soph. / New Westminster, B.C., Canada
Rennie made 15 saves in net for Tiffin, totaling 120 minutes.
Women's Golf Player of the Week
Anna Chew - Trevecca Nazarene / Soph. / Smithville, Tenn.
Chew was the best player in the conference at the Browngolf Intercollegiate last week, placing third overall in a field of 63 players. She shot 78-77=155 for the tournament, helping TNU to third place in the standings.
