Walsh Unanimous Choice in Preseason Coaches Poll

INDIANAPOLIS - After capturing the program’s first tournament title, Walsh earned the coveted top position as the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Women’s Lacrosse Preseason Coaches Poll presented by Under Armour was announced on Monday.

The sport has featured some of the league’s best represented parity with five different postseason winners in as many seasons since the spring of 2016.

If that intriguing trend is to continue in 2022, some of the dominoes as lined up in the preseason coaches poll voted by the league’s coaches, will need to fall in a different way.

The Cavaliers were the unanimous choice going into the new spring campaign (since programs cannot vote for themselves) while racking up five first-place votes.

Walsh received a total of 25 points while preseason runner-up Findlay earned a total of 20 points and the other first-place vote.

Tiffin was voted third with 17 points and conference newcomer Ashland was polled fourth with 14 points. Tying for fifth was Lake Erie and Ursuline, each with seven points.

The top four teams from the conference regular season standings will qualify for the postseason tournament. The Great Midwest is still part of the Midwest Region for NCAA Championship qualification, competing with the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC), Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) and Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC), for at-large bids.

There is no automatic qualifier in the sport of women’s lacrosse at the Division II level.
