INDIANAPOLIS – Walsh student-athletes made history at the Lock Haven Invitational as Great Midwest Athletic Conference Cross Country Athletes of the Week awards continued with Tuesday’s announcement.
 
Men’s Athlete of the Week
Hunter Moore
Walsh
Senior
Westerville, OH (Olentangy Orange HS/Otterbein/Indiana)

 
History was made on Saturday at the Lock Haven Invitational as Moore shattered the conference 8K record at the Lock Haven Invitational in Pennsylvania. He averaged 4:50.50 per mile while two teammates, Drew Roberts and Mitchel Dunham, joined him in the top 10 of the individual standings.
 
The senior won by almost a 36 second spread with a time of 24:04.10, breaking the previous conference best from former Hillsdale All-American Joseph Humes set back in 2019.
 
Humes ran a 24:05.10 at the 2019 Great Midwest Championship meet.
 
Moore earned his second athlete of the week honor this season, his first year competing at Walsh after transferring from Indiana.
 
Moore was first in the field of almost 300 runners and the Cavaliers finished second in a team of 20 schools.
 
Women’s Athlete of the Week
Alexa Leppelmeier
Walsh
5th Year Senior
Wauseon, OH (Pettisville HS)
 
Leppelmeier posted a top 10 best 6K conference time in the women’s race as Walsh captured a team title in a strong field with 22 competing programs.
 
Leppelmeier ran a 20:58.70, officially ranking as the ninth-fastest time in conference history while finishing as the top Division II runner.
 
The Cavaliers posted a team time of 1:49.54.00 with an average time of 21:58.00 to beat out a handful of strong schools from the Atlantic Region.
 
In four weeks, Leppelmeier has earned conference athlete of the week honors three different times already this season.
 
The Cavaliers entered the weekend ranked 15th in the USTFCCCA National Poll.
