The Panthers are rolling on a six-match win streak (8-2 overall) and opened play in the South Division with a pair of victories in the league schedule.
Fecht is the third consecutive ODU player to receive weekly honors following Kelsey Shoup (Defensive – Week 1) and Olivia Kirksey (Offensive – Week 2).
The spring first team all-conference performer Fecht performed at a very high level while defeating Trevecca Nazarene and Kentucky Wesleyan. She hit well over .400 in both matches, a combined .446 on the weekend.
Fecht smashed down 36 total kills combined. She had 22 kills and nine digs vs. TNU, one dig shy of a double-double, while putting down 14 against KWC.
ODU is ranked third in the conference in team kills per set (13.53) and is first among all teams in opponent hitting percentage (.123). Fecht is leading the Panthers and is fourth in the Great Midwest in kills per set (3.76).
Defensive Player of the Week
Katie Thompson
Ashland
Defensive Specialist
Sophomore
Independence, OH (Padua Franciscan HS)
The Eagles had their roster decimated early in the season due to COVID, resulting in the program being shorthanded for tournaments in Florida and Indianapolis.
Thompson and the Eagles hit the reset button and emerged out of the first weekend of conference play as one of three teams standing 2-0 in the South Division.
Thompson was one of the starters out and made her presence felt in home sweeps against Lake Erie and Ursuline. The sophomore averaged six digs per set, league-leading numbers for the week, and totaled 36 in six sets played.
In her season debut, Thompson produced 16 digs as the Eagles held down Lake Erie to a negative hitting percentage as a team. She then added 20 digs in another three-set final on Saturday as Ashland limited Ursuline to a .033 hitting percentage.
