INDIANAPOLIS – Hillsdale and Tiffin were tabbed for Great Midwest Athletic Conference Tennis Athletes of the Week honors as announced on Wednesday.
 
Men’s Athlete of the Week
Brennan Cimpeanu
Hillsdale
Sophomore
Troy, MI (Troy HS)
 
Hillsdale welcomed in four teams for their own invitational over the weekend while Cimpeanu was perfect in both his singles and doubles matches for the Chargers.
 
The sophomore was 3-0 in both singles and doubles. In the bracket, he toppled the No. 1 and No. 2 performers from Wayne State and partnered with Sean Barstow to beat the Warriors’ top two doubles teams.
 
In “A” Singles, Cimpeanu sealed his title with a straight set finish over WSU’s Dom Spicer, 6-4, 6-2. In “A” Doubles, Cimpeanu and Barstow won by a score of 8-3.
 
Hillsdale is the defending men’s tennis team conference champion from the 2020-21 academic year.
 
Women’s Athlete of the Week

Lepinay was also perfect, this time enjoying a season debut to remember at the Findlay Invitational with Wayne State and Bowling Green also in attendance.
 
A transfer from Southern Arkansas, Lepinay was ahead of Wayne State’s Marta Komar in the first set, 5-3, before Komar retired for the decision in favor of Tiffin. She then beat Bowling Green’s Maru Poppe in a wild three-set match that ended in a 12-10 third-set score.
 
Lepinay also defeated Findlay’s Laura Brito in straight sets to highlight her singles action.
 
In doubles, she worked to beat a tandem from Bowling Green and two pairings from Findlay.
