NORTH CANTON, Ohio - The 2021 Great Midwest Women’s Lacrosse Championship title belongs to the Walsh Cavaliers, after defeating Tiffin by a final score of 15-7 in the tournament championship on Saturday.
No. 1 Walsh and No. 2 Tiffin were the final teams standing in the four team bracket after Walsh defeated Ursuline (19-3) and Tiffin beat Findlay (10-8) in Thursday evening’s semifinals.
This is the fifth women’s lacrosse championship tournament the league has conducted and the first time that Walsh has won the title.
At Larry Staudt Field, Tiffin took an early lead with a 3-1 advantage at the 17 minute mark of the first half, before the Cavaliers scored seven consecutive goals to take an 8-3 lead by halftime. The Cavaliers rattled off four more goals before the Dragons were able to score in the second half.
Walsh’s Lindsay Hindman led all players with five goals. Hannah McFeeters also added four goals and two assists for the Cavs. Kathleen Mendenhall earned the win in goal with eight saves and eight ground balls.
For Tiffin, Elle Hamilton scored a team-best three goals. Jenay Rennie had nine saves in goal.
