2021 Great Midwest Women's Lacrosse All-Conference Team (PDF)
INDIANAPOLIS – Each participating institution was represented on the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Women’s Lacrosse All-Conference Team that was released on Friday prior to the championship match this weekend.
The coaches voted for the all-conference team and individual award winners, which include a first team, second team and third team.
Conference tournament top seed and host Walsh is getting ready to face No. 2 seed Tiffin for the championship tournament trophy on Saturday in North Canton, Ohio.
Those two institutions headlined the majority of the first team list, which includes four from the attack position, three defensemen, four midfielders and a goalkeeper.
Walsh was the conference regular season champion with 15 accumulated points in the spring standings. The Cavaliers had to defeat Tiffin outright to make it happen and head coach Matt Shields’ program did just that in the regular season finale.
The Cavaliers were well represented well in the individual awards including midfielder Hannah McFeeters staking claim to the Great Midwest Offensive Player of the Year honor and bringing home the Elite 23 Award.
McFeeters tallied 36 goals and 16 assists in 12 games while finishing third in the league in both goals per game and assists per game. She averaged a league best 6.67 shots per game and was named conference offensive player of the week twice.
The midfield position was just stacked with offensive talent as McFeeters comprised the first team all-conference positional list with Findlay’s Ciara Burud and Tiffin’s Elle Hamilton, voted Great Midwest Midfielder of the Year.
Hamilton’s prowess and impact on the field goes well beyond the offensive numbers as she routinely stuffs the stat sheet with ground ball totals and draw controls. Hamilton led the league in goals per game (3.79) and points per game (4.93). Burud was second in the league in goals per game while helping lead the Oilers to the No. 3 seed in the conference tournament.
The first team attack position included the league’s leader in assists from Walsh, Ellen Lawrence. She was seventh in the league in points per game. Sharing Great Midwest co-Defensive Player of the Year honors for the spring was Walsh’s Halle Kotulock and Findlay’s Halle Canfield.
The Great Midwest Goalkeeper of the Year was Tiffin freshman Jenay Rennie and the Great Midwest Freshman of the Year was from Ursuline, first-year standout Grace London. Also from the Arrows was Great Midwest Coach of the Year, Lauren Simko, as voted upon by her peers on the sidelines.
