NORTH CANTON, Ohio - Tiffin and Walsh will face off for the the Great Midwest Women’s Lacrosse Championship title after advancing through the semifinal round of the tournament on Thursday evening.
No. 2 Tiffin and No. 3 Findlay played the first game of the night with No. 1 Walsh and No. 4 Ursuline following. The conference will crown its fourth women’s lacrosse tournament champion on Saturday at 5 p.m. ET on Larry Staudt Field.
No. 2 Tiffin vs No. 3 Findlay
The first game of the night was close all throughout the 60 minutes with four ties and neither team ever leading by more than three goals. Tiffin’s Elle Hamilton scored on a free position shot with less than three minutes to play to secure the Dragon’s win, 10-8.
Hamilton lead Tiffin with four goals, three of which came in the second half. She also added one assist and won seven draw controls. Six different Dragons were able to score to propel them past the Oilers. Freshman Jenay Rennie recorded the win in goal with eight saves and four ground balls.
For Findlay, Ciara Burud lead the offense with three goals and one assist. Despite getting more shots and committing fewer turnovers than the Dragons, the Oilers were unable to score for long stretches throughout the second half, on which Tiffin capitalized.
No. 1 Walsh vs No. 4 Ursuline
The second semifinal of the night was a different story as Walsh took control early and did not let up to advance past Ursuline, 19-3. The Cavaliers held the Arrows scoreless throughout the first half, going into halftime up 13-0. Ursuline was able to get on the board midway through the second half and scored the final two goals of the game.
Seven different Walsh players scored, led by this week’s Offensive Player of the Week, Lindsay Hindman’s five goal outing. Isabella Kelty scored four goals.
On the defensive end, Halle Kotulock won eight draw controls, caused four turnovers and picked up four ground balls. Kathleen Mendenhall recorded the win in goal with three saves and two ground balls in 50 minutes.
