Baseball Players of the Week (May 11)

5.11.21

INDIANAPOLIS – The bracket is all laid out for the postseason at PRASCO Park as the final set of Great Midwest Athletic Conference Baseball Players of the Week were announced on Tuesday afternoon.

The conference tournament officially gets underway at Legacy Field and PRASCO Park in Mason, Ohio, on Wednesday with the first pitch of Game 1 at 11 AM ET. Four different games will be played on Wednesday in the double-elimination style bracket.

Player of the Week
Shawn Wallwork
Trevecca Nazarene
Infield
Freshman
Franklin, TN (Independence HS)

The Trojans brought out the brooms to close out the regular season against Cedarville to lock up the top seed in the playoffs and secure the conference regular season title.

Wallwork, a freshman infielder, keyed the Trojans’ hit parade with three multi-hit performances and batted .500 (9-18) on the week.

He also doubled twice and launched his first home run of the spring and his career while coming up clutch at the dish with 11 total RBI in just four games.

Wallwork had five of those RBI in the series opener as he went 4-for-6 with a double and homer in a 15-5 victory for TNU. Wallwork hit a solo blast, representing the go-ahead run in the sixth inning, before driving in two more in the seventh and doubling in another run in the ninth frame.

In a very deep position around the conference, Wallwork upped his season average to .352 in 29 games played. He has 25 RBI and has 21 runs scored with 37 hits.

Pitcher of the Week
David Toth
Hillsdale
RHP
Junior
Grosse Pointe, MI (South HS)

For the third time this spring, Toth was tabbed pitcher of the week for his turn through the rotation against Findlay in the final series of the regular season.

Toth had his strikeout stuff working again to frustrate the opponent’s offense as he fanned nine in a seven-inning complete game effort. The junior right scattered seven hits and gave up no earned runs while walking two.

Toth has five starts with double-digit strikeouts, including a season-high 12 against both Malone and Cedarville this spring.

He has recorded 91 punchouts in 58.1 IP while going 3-2 with a 4.32 ERA. Toth figures to get his next start of the season in Hillsdale’s first tournament game on Wednesday as the Chargers earned the No. 6 seed in the championship bracket.
