INDIANAPOLIS
– By virtue of their placement at the recently-completed championships event, Great Midwest Athletic Conference Men’s Swimming & Diving All-Conference honors, including individual awards for the 2020-21 year were announced on Thursday.

To earn all-conference honors, the highest Great Midwest finish in each event was filtered out from the Mountain East Conference, from the combined results. The same process was applicable for determining second team and third team all-conference honors as well.

Findlay swept all five individual conference-only men’s awards as voted by the head coaches including Swimmer, Diver, Freshman and Coach of the Year. The Oilers also claimed the inaugural selection of the Great Midwest Elite 23 Award, rewarding the highest cumulative GPA with at least sophomore classification in attendance at the championship meet.

A total of 10 Findlay student-athletes were first team all-conference to help the Oilers haul in their fourth consecutive team championship, including Great Midwest Swimmer of the Year Tim Stollings. Stollings captured the Division II national championship in Birmingham, Ala., in the 100 yard breaststroke and was All-American in two other events before dominating the conference format.

In Canton, Stollings won four individual events, the 50 freestyle, 100 backstroke and 100 and 200 butterfly, while also contributing to first-place finishes in three other relay finals.

The sophomore Stollings officially repeated for both Conference and Meet individual honors as men’s swimmer of the year.

The Great Midwest Elite 23 Award was also presented on site in Canton to Findlay diver Dalton Shevlin, a senior with a cumulative 3.92 GPA majoring in Biology with a minor in Chemistry and Psychology. Shevlin also received additional hardware as the Great Midwest Diver of the Year while meeting the NCAA initial qualifying standards for diving.

Shevlin also enjoyed a fine postseason at the Great Midwest/Mountain East Championships with first team all-conference status in the 1 and 3-meter diving heights while also earning Diver of the Meet.

The Great Midwest Freshman of the Year was announced as Findlay’s Daniel Garcia, who also won four different events in Canton while setting a pair of new overall conference records in the process. Garcia was responsible for over 125 team points as he won the 200 and 400 IM, and 100 and 200 breaststroke.

Findlay’s Andrew Makepeace was the choice once again for Great Midwest Coach of the Year as the Oilers accumulated 1,525 points and set 11 different conference championship meet records to finish out the 2020-21 season.

Malone, the other competing member institution until Ashland arrives next season, had 10 total all-conference selections between the second and third team. Sophomore Caleb Cosentino had a strong conference meet with runner-up finishes in the 1,000 freestyle and three different relay races.
