INDIANAPOLIS - With six programs on the men’s side and seven on the women’s side, Hillsdale and Findlay received the most points in the 2021 Great Midwest Athletic Conference Men’s and Women’s Tennis Preseason Coaches Polls presented by Under Armour, as released on Tuesday. 

Hillsdale received the most points on the men’s side with 25, including five first-place votes. Only one point separated second through fourth place, as Tiffin earned the No. 2 spot with 18 points. Findlay received one first place vote and 17 points as the Oilers were slotted third and Walsh received 16 points as the Cavaliers were predicted fourth. 

Cedarville and Kentucky Wesleyan round out the men’s tennis preseason poll as No. 5 and No. 6 with nine and five total points, respectively.

On the women’s side, Findlay was predicted to finish fourth with 29 points and three first place votes. Four additional teams received one first place vote in a tight race for second through fifth place. Walsh is slated second with 28 points, Hillsdale is third with 27 points, Tiffin is fourth with 25 points and Cedarville is fifth with 20 points.

Kentucky Wesleyan and Ursuline are predicted to finish sixth and seventh with 11 and seven points, respectively. 

As with all spring sports, tennis did not see a full season in 2020, with the last conference championships taking place in 2019. Tiffin men won the championship title its first year as a full league member (2018-19), while Hillsdale women repeated as conference champs in 2018 and 2019. 

Competition in the fall was limited, as teams have geared up for the spring with non-conference matches throughout February and early March. 

The top predicted teams on both sides are off to a solid start to the spring season as the Hillsdale men are 6-1 and the Findlay women are 3-1.

Conference matches are set to begin on March 20. The Great Midwest Championship tournament is scheduled for April 23-24 in Owensboro, Kentucky.
