Men's Lacrosse Players of the Week (March 9)

3.9.21

INDIANAPOLIS – Nearly every program has lifted the lid on the spring season as Great Midwest Athletic Conference Men’s Lacrosse Players of the Week honors were rolled out on Tuesday afternoon.

Davis & Elkins is the one team yet to take the field as Mercyhurst made its debut over the weekend. Seton Hill and Mercyhurst still remained nationally ranked at No. 3 and 4 in the USILA Coaches Poll.

Offensive Player of the Week
Ryan Manbeck
Seton Hill
Midfield
Graduate Student
Thornton, PA (Garnet Valley HS)

The Griffins were cozy in their home confines while recording a non-conference victory against conference opponent Walsh by a final score of 21-5. After handling Chestnut Hill in the season opener, Seton Hill is primed and ready for the league schedule starting on Tuesday afternoon vs. Davis & Elkins.

The graduate student Manbeck provided plenty of offensive firepower as he netted six goals and assisted two more. Manbeck scored the first goal in regulation and scored two more times in the opening half.

His first goal of the second half gave Seton Hill an 11-3 edge and he would scored two more unassisted goals as the contest went on.

Manbeck also led the team with 13 shots taken and eight of those were on goal to help give Seton Hill a 5-0 lead in the head-to-head matchup history against the Cavaliers.

Manbeck is out of the gates fast in 2021, leading one of the best offenses in Division II with a balanced eight goals and eight assists for 16 points.

Defensive Player of the Week
Cole Pellicano
Mercyhurst
Goalkeeper
Graduate Student
Annapolis, MD (Broadneck HS)

The Lakers passed their season-opening test with flying colors against a tough Molloy program that had defeated fellow associate member Wheeling and was receiving votes in the USILA Poll.

Credit goes to Pellicano in net as he made 12 saves in his Mercyhurst debut.

After giving up his fourth goal on the day with 8:21 remaining in the second period, Pellicano stoned the Molloy offense and didn’t allow another marker until there was 49 seconds left to play in the game.

Pellicano is new to the program after transferring in from Division III Dickinson College. He saved over 70 percent of his shots faced and played the entire duration as the starter.

Mercyhurst will be on the road this weekend against Roberts Wesleyan College with a 1 p.m. ET start from Rochester, NY.
