INDIANAPOLIS - Walsh swept Great Midwest Tennis Athlete of the Week honors announced on Wednesday afternoon. 

Cedarville, Hillsdale and Walsh picked up team wins this week on the men’s side, while Cedarville, Tiffin and Walsh were winners on the women’s side as the first conference matches of the spring season began with Findlay and Walsh facing off. Both Hillsdale and Walsh were scheduled to face Ursuline in conference play, but those matches were postponed due to COVID-19 protocol.

Walsh picked up its first conference win of the spring in a 4-2 victory over Findlay at the North Canton Racquet Club. Walsh won at No. 1, 4, 5 and 6 singles and No. 1 and 2 doubles. 

Kulynych played a role in two of those wins, as he beat Findlay’s Octavio Carrasco in No. 5 singles (6-3, 6-3). Kulynych and doubles partner Clemens Wagner defeated Findlay in No. 2 doubles.

The Cavaliers improve to 5-6 overall and 1-0 in conference play. 

Women’s Tennis Athlete of the Week

Walsh women extended their win streak to four in a row as the Cavaliers are 8-3 overall and 1-0 in the conference with last week’s 4-3 win over Findlay.

The Cavaliers won at No. 2, 3, 4 and 5 singles, as well as No. 2 doubles. Kacalova won No. 2 doubles in three sets (7-6, 0-6, 6-2). 

Kacalova is 2-1 in No. 1 singles and 4-3 in No. 2 singles so far this season. She did not compete in doubles against Findlay but is 4-2 on the year when competing with doubles partner Isabella Sanchez.
