Men’s Lacrosse Players of the Week (March 16)

3.16.21

INDIANAPOLIS – Nationally ranked Mercyhurst and Seton Hill staked claim to new Great Midwest Athletic Conference Men’s Lacrosse Players of the Week selections as announced on Tuesday afternoon.

A total of four games around the conference were completed over the past week as Seton Hill and Davis & Elkins started the conference schedule. The Senators finished the week with a split following a 16-9 victory over Wheeling, the final counting towards the non-conference schedule.

Lake Erie and Mercyhurst each faced Roberts Wesleyan on the road. Seton Hill (3-0) and Mercyhurst (2-0) remain ranked third and fourth in the USILA Division II Poll. The Griffins received one first-place vote in the most recent balloting.

Offensive Player of the Week
Caleb Kueber
Mercyhurst
Attack
Senior
Victoria, B.C. (Claremont)

The Lakers simply imposed their will against Roberts Wesleyan, a program that was receiving votes in the last two USILA Polls, with a 19-4 victory in Rochester.

Kueber’s exploits since Mercyhurst joined the Great Midwest as an associate member are well documented and his latest single-game performance pushed him up the career leaderboard among all conference players.

The senior attack now sits with 116 total points since 2018 and this past week moved past Lake Erie’s Tim Bay (102 points) for fifth all-time in conference history.

Kueber netted nine points against Roberts Wesleyan, including four goals and five assists. He fired off eight shots and collected one ground ball in Mercyhurst’s second game of the spring.

The Lakers took a commanding 9-1 lead at halftime and Kueber had a hand in the first two goals as teammates Devin Pipher and Nathan Grenon each scored early. Kueber’s first goal was relatively early in the second period and he went back-to-back for Mercyhurst with another goal about 6 minutes later.

His last goal gave the Lakers a 15-1 advantage in the third period. Kueber is the current league leader in goals and points per game.

Defensive Player of the Week
Logan Gray
Seton Hill
Midfield
Junior
Canonsburg, PA (Canon McMillan HS)

If there was a near-perfect performance on the field this past week, it was Gray, who was successful on all 22 face off attempts against Davis & Elkins.

The Griffins had no trouble on the offensive side, but equally were just as impressive on defense by limiting the Senators to just four goals allowed.

Gray also collected 17 ground balls for Seton Hill as Brian Novotny’s program improved to 3-0 this spring.

The junior recorded a pair of shots as well. So far, Gray has won 60 out of 77 face off attempts this year as the Griffins have outscored their opponents by a combined score of 79-17.

Gray has a huge lead in the league in ground balls per game, averaging 15.67 through three contests.
