Volleyball Players of the Week (March 15)

INDIANAPOLIS - With the conclusion of the 2020-21 volleyball spring season, Hillsdale and Tiffin took home Great Midwest Athletic Conference Volleyball Players of the Week honors for the final time this season as announced Monday afternoon.

Hillsdale and Tiffin advanced through the conference championship bracket to Saturday's championship match where the Chargers ultimately won in four sets.

The Great Midwest Player of the Year added one more accolade to her decorated resumé this spring, earning Player of the Week honors for the third time this season. Through the Chargers' tournament run, Shelton was spectacular as she reached double figures in kills and digs in each of the three matches it took to win the conference title. 

In the 3-0 quarterfinal win over Ursuline, Shelton had 15 kills with only one error for a hitting percentage of .400, while also adding 12 kills on the defensive end.

The Chargers faced their toughest challenge of the season in the semifinal match as Cedarville took Hillsdale to five sets. Shelton paced the Chargers with 22 kills, hitting .408, while adding 16 digs.

In the championship match, Hillsdale came back to win the next three sets after Tiffin took the first. Shelton led the team in kills with 19 and added 18 digs. 

Shelton concluded the season averaging 3.8 kills per set with a hitting percentage of .308, ranking her second in the league in kills and ninth in hitting percentage.

As the No. 6 seed in the tournament, Tiffin upset Findlay and Walsh to reach the conference championship match. A big factor in the Dragons postseason success was middle hitter Grace Schreiber who averaged 1.3 blocks per set through three matches. 

Schreiber had five solo blocks in the 3-1 quarterfinal win over Findlay. She also connected for 11 kills with a .417 hitting percentage.

In the three set sweep over Walsh, the Dragons had 29 blocks as a team with Schreiber playing a part in eight of those blocks. 

Schreiber added one block, four digs and 10 kills in the championship match.  

The senior was a major presence on offense and defense for the Dragons all season as she ends the year averaging 2.73 kills per set and .96 blocks per set, ranking her fourth in the league among block leaders.
