INDIANAPOLIS – After the preseason coaches poll was revealed, Great Midwest Athletic Conference Women’s Lacrosse Players of the Week were announced on Wednesday morning as four matchups were completed.
Offensive Player of the Week
Elle Hamilton
Tiffin
Midfield
Senior
Victoria, BC (Claremont Secondary)
In terms of basketball equivalency, Hamilton fills up the stat sheet and makes her presence felt as one of the top threats not only in the Midwest Region, but the country.
The Dragons are conference preseason favorites and one of the big reasons is the reigning Great Midwest Player of the Year roaming the field. She was off to another incredible start in the pandemic-shortened 2020 campaign with three different player of the week awards, including one on the defensive side.
Tiffin had closely-contested finals against Notre Dame (OH) and Davenport over the past week as the senior contributed seven goals and a pair of assists.
She also had seven combined ground balls and was responsible for 11 draw controls and a pair of caused turnovers. Hamilton fired off 14 shots, including 11 on target.
It is no surprise Hamilton is the early league leader in goals scored (8) and points (12) while sharing the lead with Walsh’s Kendra Cowen-Tripp in points per game (4.0).
Defensive Player of the Week
Halle Kotulock
Walsh
Midfield/Defense
Senior
Wooster, OH (Wooster HS)
The Cavaliers clawed their way into the win column with a home victory on Saturday against Charleston.
Kotulock helped Walsh hold the Golden Eagles to just seven goals on the game as she forced five turnovers and picked up four ground balls.
Kotulock equaled her ground ball total from Walsh’s first game of the year against nationally ranked Roberts Wesleyan.
The Walsh defense permitted just 14 shots against keeper Kathleen Mendenhall and fired 38 of their own. The Cavaliers held a 9-4 lead at halftime before outscoring Charleston 10-3 in the second half.
