Tennis Athletes of the Week (Feb. 17)

INDIANAPOLIS - The third week of the spring season is underway, as Tiffin and Walsh earn Great Midwest Tennis Athlete of the Week honors, announced Wednesday afternoon. 

Tiffin men went 2-1 on the week with wins over Davenport (5-2) and Northwood (4-3). Walsh men split on the week, falling to Davenport (3-4) but beating Northwood (4-3). Hillsdale men went undefeated, topping Lawrence Tech (4-0) and Davenport (4-2).  Cedarville men defeated Division III program Thomas More (7-0). 

On the women’s side, Tiffin fell to Ferris State (2-5) but defeated Northwood (5-2). Walsh went 2-0 this week, defeating Davenport (6-1) and Northwood (5-2). Hillsdale women topped Davenport (4-0) and Cedarville women beat Thomas More (6-1).

Men’s Tennis Athlete of the Week

In Friday’s match with Davenport, Riglewski won No. 1 singles in three sets (4-6, 6-1, 7-5). He then defeated Davenport’s No. 1 doubles with teammate Alex Medina (7-6). 

Against Northwood, Riglewski helped Walsh to the team win as he beat Northwood’s No. 1 singles in straight sets (6-3, 6-4). Riglewski and Medina fell to Northwood’s No. 1 doubles (6-4). 

After being named Great Midwest Tennis Athlete of the Week in back-to-back weeks, the junior has now earned the honors three times throughout his career.

Women’s Tennis Athlete of the Week

Against Ferris State, Geslin played No. 2 singles, defeating her opponent 7-6 (9-7), 6-2. Geslin also played in No. 1 doubles with fellow Dragon Alessandra Maganuco. The pair was defeated 6-4. 

In the team win over Northwood, Geslin once again won No. 2 singles in straight sets (6-2, 6-2). Geslin and Maganuco competed in No. 1 doubles, falling 6-2.

This marks the third Athlete of the Week honors Geslin has been awarded throughout her career, as she earned the title twice during the 2019-20 season.
