Women’s Basketball Athlete of the Week (Nov. 23)

11.23.21

INDIANAPOLIS – Top 10 nationally-ranked Ashland was named as the recipient for Great Midwest Athletic Conference Women’s Basketball Athlete of the Week status while remaining unbeaten through the second week of the regular season.

As teams get ready for the Thanksgiving holiday layover, six of the Great Midwest’s 12 programs have an overall record of .500 or better. Ashland is the only program at 3-0 but Cedarville, Malone and Ursuline, have all won three of their first four games with Walsh and Kentucky Wesleyan also off to strong starts.

At 6-1 with an array of moves at her disposal, Roshak is an absolute handful in the post for the Eagles, who checked in at No. 8 in the WBCA Preseason Coaches Poll for Division II.

Ashland improved to 3-0 this season after getting in a battle with Lewis from the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC), a program that was regionally ranked in the Midwest to end the 2020-21 season.

The Eagles have three Midwest Region wins on their season resume already after beating Lindenwood and UIndy, both from the GLVC, during opening weekend.

Roshak scored a game-high 24 points and was one of three Ashland players in double figures as head coach Kari Pickens’ program shot nearly 56 percent from the field. When the junior forward took a shot, she was on target while making 11 of her 14 tries.

Roshak pulled down seven rebounds and picked up a pair of steals. Her final basket of the game would turn out to be the game-winning shot with under a minute left to play in a wild final 60 seconds of regulation.

Roshak is off to a blistering start to the year, leading all players in the conference in scoring (24.3 ppg) while averaging 5.3 rebounds per game on 60.4 percent shooting from the floor.
