NCAA Championship Bracket

INDIANAPOLIS
– Five-time Great Midwest Athletic Conference champion Hillsdale found out it would be the No. 3 seed in the NCAA Championship Midwest Regional following Monday night’s Selection Show revealing the field of 64 teams.

The Chargers draw No. 6 seed Grand Valley State from the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC). Presumably, Hillsdale would be traveling to Big Rapids, Mich., where No. 1 seed Ferris State is the high seed in the bracket.

A win in the first round of the regional would move the program to face either the second-seeded Huskies or No. 7 Wayne State, also affiliated with the GLIAC.

At the time of release, the host site and start time was yet to be determined. The NCAA Selection Show was delayed by 30 minutes for a start time of 8 p.m. ET.

The national committee finalized the tournament field after conference championship brackets determined automatic qualifiers from around the country throughout the weekend. There were five at-large selections made in the Midwest Region.

The Chargers are coming off the conference championship tournament victory that has been a familiar sighting in Dawn Tibbetts Potter Arena. Hillsdale was outright North Division champion in the regular season and served as host for the conference tournament semis after going undefeated in the league standings.

The Chargers gained valuable postseason experience during the spring at the AVCA DII National Tournament in Dallas, Texas, that served as good preparation for another fall postseason run.

HC was in the national tournament Sweet 16 in 2019 while advancing to the Midwest Region championship matchup against Rockhurst. The Chargers are sporting a 27-4 overall record while carrying a current seven-match win streak under Great Midwest Coach of the Year Chris Gravel.

Hillsdale has been ranked third in each series of Midwest Region rankings published this season.

Conference championship finalist Ashland had made an appearance at No. 10 in the third published set of Midwest Region rankings, but almost assuredly needed the tournament victory to ensure its spot in the eight-team regional.
