NCAA Championship Men's 10K - Final Results
SAINT LEO, Fla. – Two qualifying teams and an individual qualifier from the Great Midwest Athletic Conference finished their fall seasons on Saturday morning in the 10K competition of the 2021 NCAA Division II Cross Country Championships hosted by Saint Leo University at The Abbey Course.
Walsh had punched its ticket to nationals with an AQ following a third-place team finish at the Midwest Regional and Cedarville followed through with an at-large selection. Walsh would finish 18th as a program and Cedarville placed 31st with 34 schools counted for team scoring.
Following the women’s 6K at 8:30 a.m. ET, the men were able to compete shortly after at 9:45 a.m. ET in beautiful weather.
Walsh senior Hunter Moore was the league’s top performer with a placement at 44th in a field of 245 runners. The first team all-conference performer was the Cavaliers’ top scorer with a time of 31:38.40.
Cedarville’s Evan Leist was not too far from that pace as the Yellow Jackets’ best placewinner as he finished 68th. The junior ran his 10K course time in 32:05.80.
Also finishing in the top 100 was Walsh freshman Drew Monahan at 89th and Great Midwest Freshman of the Year, also from Walsh, Nathan Moore at No. 98.
Findlay’s Noah Fisher sustained an undisclosed injury during his race and was carted off on a stretcher. It was a heartbreaking end for the sophomore’s outstanding season that included Great Midwest Runner of the Year status claimed at Cedarville and a handful of athlete of the week performances throughout 2021.
Also in the list of competitors who were unable to complete the race was Walsh’s Drew Roberts, a first team all-conference runner, and Northwood Zane Aldrich, a standout who will be joining the league for competition next fall when the Timberwolves switch conference affiliation officially.
