Volleyball Players of the Week – North Division (Oct. 19)

INDIANAPOLIS –Both Hillsdale and Ursuline finished the weekend 2-1 helping the league to 16 combined wins mark leading to Great Midwest Athletic Conference Volleyball Players of the Week honors for the North Division.

The Arrows had a strong showing for the conference at the Midwest Region Crossover Tournament with a 2-1 record. Ursuline defeated William Jewell and Southwest Baptist, both from the GLVC, while also taking on Northern Michigan from the GLIAC.
 
Turay was a machine on offense for the Arrows while finishing with 29 kills and a robust hitting percentage at .436.
 
The senior outside hitter played a pivotal role in Ursuline’s success this weekend recording 13 kills in the win over William Jewell, the second most on the team. That performance also marked season-highs for the North Ridgeville, Ohio, native in both kills and points.
 
Turay ranked eighth among all players at the Crossover this weekend in hitting percentage and she hit .650 vs. William Jewell, the second-highest mark in the tournament only behind Ferris State’s Katie O’Connell (.667).

League-leading and No. 18 nationally ranked Hillsdale continued to shine at this weekend’s Midwest Region Crossover Tournament. Going in as the top seed from the Great Midwest, the Chargers drew tough assignments against the GLVC’s No. 1 Lewis and the GLIAC’s No. 1 Michigan Tech.
 
Both Lewis and Michigan Tech are nationally ranked in the AVCA Top-25 Poll. HC came out on top also against UIndy from the GLVC in a straight-set sweep. The Chargers also toppled Lewis in a match of regional heavy hitters.
 
Shelton helped the Chargers to straight-set victories with 7 blocks on the weekend while averaging 5.22 digs per set.
 
The junior recorded 6 of those blocks in Hillsdale’s two wins on Friday. Shelton’s offensive prowess is well documented as the conference player of the year this spring and she also averaged 3.56 kills per set while hitting .224.
 
She was tied for eighth among all players at the Crossover in digs per set with teammate Alli Wiese, a two-time divisional defensive player of the week this season.
