Walsh women’s basketball claimed the spotlight this week, as junior guard, Lexie Scarton, made ESPN Sports Center with a half court buzzer beater in Thursday’s win over Ursuline. Scarton then recorded the first triple-double for Walsh in its NCAA DII era (16 pts, 12 ast, 10 reb) on Saturday.
The Cavaliers scored 112 points and secured 63 rebounds, rolling past Ohio Valley on Saturday afternoon. Both of those marks setting records for most points and rebounds for Walsh since joining DII.
Mayci Sales largely contributed to those team totals, while also setting personal career marks. Sales scored a career-best 32 points and tied her career-high in rebounds with 17 in the Cavs win over OVU. She also added four assists and one steal in Saturday’s game.
Earlier in the week, Walsh defeated Ursuline at home 89-59. Sales nearly missed a double-double and was not far off from a triple double, as she tallied 26 points, nine rebounds and seven assists. The 6-1 forward also contributed two steals and a block.
Sales averaged 29 ppg, 13 rpg and 5 apg while shooting almost 70 percent from the field (25-36). In Saturday’s game, Sales also became the eighth all-time leading scorer in Walsh history with 1,324 career points.
The senior leads in the league in rebounds (11.2) and blocked shots (1.9), and ranks third in scoring (20.2) and seventh in field goal percentage (.500).
This marks Sales fourth Player of the Week honors, as she earned the title three times during the 2019-20 season.
