Three Programs Collect ABCA Academic Team Award

INDIANAPOLIS
– Cedarville, Ohio Dominican and Walsh, all were recipients of the 2019-20 American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) Team Academic Excellence Award, all posting at least a 3.0 team grade point average.
 
The Yellow Jackets are coached by Mike Manes, Ohio Dominican is coached by Christopher Antonides and Walsh is guided by Tim Mead.
 
Additionally, incoming league member Ashland also made the prestigious list. The Eagles are coached by John Schaly as they prepare for their first year in the Great Midwest in the spring of 2022.
 
Criteria for the ABCA Team Academic Excellence Award include:
  • Must be a high school or college team
  • Head coach must be a current ABCA member
  • Team must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale during the 2019-20 academic year (see form for details regarding 2020 academic interruptions). GPA may not be rounded up.
 
The American Baseball Coaches Association has a long tradition of recognizing the achievements of baseball coaches and student-athletes. The ABCA/Rawlings All-America Teams are the nation's oldest, founded in 1949, and the ABCA's awards program also includes the ABCA/Rawlings All-Region Awards, the ABCA/Diamond Sports Regional & National Coaches of the Year and several other major awards such as the ABCA Hall of Fame and Dave Keilitz Ethics in Coaching Award.
