Baseball Duo Named CoSIDA Academic All-America

INDIANAPOLIS - The College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) named two baseball student-athletes from the Great Midwest Athletic Conference to the 2020 Academic All-America Baseball Team for Division II. 
 
Senior pitchers Eric Mullet (Berlin, OH/Hiland) of Malone and Devin Smith (Teutopolis, IL)
of Kentucky Wesleyan were selected by the organization. Mullet was named to the Second Team and Smith to the Third Team. 
 
Mullet and Smith were among 34 student-athletes that earned Academic All-America honors. 
 
Mullet is a three-time all-conference selection and was named East Division Pitcher of the Week two times during the shortened 2020 season. 

Mullet posted a 1.42 ERA in three starts while recording 21 strikeouts in 19 innings pitched. His career ERA of 3.36 is fourth among qualified starters. He sits fourth in current conference history in strikeouts with 199 and is tied for third in wins with 22. 

A Business Administration & Finance major, Mullet holds a 3.76 GPA. 

After transferring to Kentucky Wesleyan, Smith earned NCAA Division II All-American accolades and Great Midwest Pitcher of the Year status. Smith was off to a solid start this spring with a 1.15 ERA in 15.2 innings pitched through three starts.

Last year, he was the league leader with 91 strikeouts and was second in the league with a 2.70 ERA. Smith reported a 3.70 GPA while studying Business Administration.

Future league member, Ashland, had senior designated hitter Carson Mittermaier named to the Academic All-America Third Team. Mittermaier posted a 3.32 GPA in business management. 

Despite the cancellation of spring competition during COVID-19, CoSIDA continued its sponsorship of the Academic All-America awards program. Student-athletes were selected based on career statistics.

The Division II Academic All-America® program is being financially supported by the NCAA Division II national governance structure to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2019-20 Division II Academic All-America® teams program.
