GENEVA, Ohio – Due to the COVID-19 virus, Findlay had one day to make it count at the NCAA Division II Swimming & Diving Championships that were held at the SPIRE Institute and hosted by Lake Erie College.
The Oilers sent a total of eight student-athletes to the awards podium with NCAA All-American honors by virtue of a top-16 finish in their respective events.
The four-day event was halted on Thursday, March, 12 after Wednesday's competition included multiple finals in both individual and relay events.
Freshman Tim Stollings, who was the Male Athlete and Freshman of the Meet at the G-MAC /MEC Championship in Canton last month, set a program and combined conference record in the 50 freestyle.
In his prelim, Stollings finished the sprint in a time of 20.20, a razor-thin margin faster than the old record held by Janko Radmanovic (2016) with a 20.24. He would finish 20th in the preliminaries among the nation's best.
Radmanovic had also previously held the combined conference record with his time at the national championship meet in 2018. In his rookie season, Stollings owns four of the top 10 combined G-MAC/MEC times in the record books.
Stollings was also the top overall seed in the 100 butterfly, but was unable to count his time of 47.37 towards that night's finals as all NCAA Championships, winter and spring, were canceled that morning.
He was seventh in the prelims and would have advanced into the Day 2 finals heat.
Stollings also participated in the men's 200 medley relay alongside teammates senior Isaac Stretch, freshman Colin Martin, and senior Trent Williams. That group earned NCAA Honorable Mention all-American status in the event by taking 16th with a time of 1:29.52.
That time ranks second in the combined conference record books. The same foursome also holds the overall record that was swam at the Calvin Winter Invitational just in December.
In the women's 200 medley relay, the team of sophomore Chris McFarland, Kristina Coleman, Katy Kouvaris, and Hanna Cederholm had a time of 1:42.73 in the prelims which set a new school record in the event by five-hundredths of a second. That time put the group in the consolation final. In that final, Findlay had a time of 1:42.90 which was 15th in the event and earned Honorable Mention All-American status.
Cedarholm also participated in the 200 IM where, in the prelims, she recorded a time of 2:05.39 which was 31st while McFarland took 43rd in the women's 50 free with a time of 24.01.
